With Valentine's Day just around the corner, a number of food products are being touted as beneficial for enhancing the love life. Among them are a new chocolate tailored specifically for women and, perhaps more surprisingly, tuna sandwiches.

The potentially beneficial effects of the protein and omega-3 fatty acids in tuna fish on reducing blood pressure and cholesterol levels and fighting heart disease have been well documented. But less well known is the link with libido.

Dietician Ellen Albertson believes that libidos can be stimulated by a change in diet, and gives a number of tips for improving sex life in her book Temptations: Igniting the Pleasure and Power of Aphrodisiacs. One of the dietary tips she suggests is eating more tuna sandwiches.

The US Tuna Foundation said that eating white albacore tuna helped increase intake of omega-3 fats. These are thought to help reduce the incidence of depression, one of the inhibitors of libido. The book's conclusion is that eating more canned tuna can lift a person's mood and thereby improve their love life.

While tuna sandwiches might not be the sexiest gift to give to your loved one on 14 February, chocolates have long been a traditional means of declaring your love.

But now there is an added bonus, for women at least. A new product, K Sensual, is chocolate designed strictly with women in mind, as it claims that its all-natural herbal recipe is proven to physically release a woman's sensuality, increasing sexual feelings and sensations by diverting blood flow to what it coyly refers to as "the right places."

The chocolate was created by Dr. Roger C. Hirsh, a specialist in oriental medicine, and is the result of more than 12 years of research. It is made by chocolate maker K Chocolatier.

The company claims that all women need to do to achieve greater sexual pleasure is to consume one serving of K Sensual chocolates at midday and an additional serving in the evening after a light meal with a warm beverage or a sip of wine.
