Austrian manufacturer of corn-based products Deuring has launched two new organic ingredients for use in functional foods and beverages.

The Organic dextrose-monohydrate (D-glucose) can be used as a sweetener or sugar-replacer in baby food and foods such as ice cream. It can also be added to energy drinks and other beverages.

Deuring, which claims to be a pioneer in dextrose-monohydrate crystallisation, has upped its industrial production of organic corn starch and sweeteners. The dextrose-monohydrate is produced from Deuring's biologically grown corn (from non-genetically modified seed.)

The company claims that no anti-oxidising additives, such as SO2 in the steeping cycle, were used in the production process, and that its dextrose-monohydrate has similar properties to those achieved with chemical additives and stabilising agents.

To comply with European Certification for Organic Food standards, the amylase and saccarification enzymes used to produce dextrose from starch slurry were from non-genetically modified resins. Deuring uses proprietary technology, such as a continuous crystallising tower with ultra-clean conditions, and a carefully designed purification process to achieve such results.

Deuring's product range also includes Organic Corn Starch, Modified Starches and Glucose Syrups for use in nutraceuticals and premium brands in the food and beverage industry.
