Goodbye Flachsmann and hello to Frutarom

Visitors expecting to see flavours company Flachsmann at the upcoming Food Ingredients Europe exhibition will take note of the 'Flachsmann is now Frutarom' motto, for the company - recently taken over by Israeli company Frutarom - has been christened Frutarom Switzerland. In June this year Frutarom UK - a subsidiary of €96m Israeli Frutarom group - paid €20 million for the Swiss flavours company Emil Flachsmann. A move that immediately gave the group an increased stake in the botanical extracts market. Products on display at this year's FiE in Frankfurt this November confirm the company's aim to move further into herbal extracts. In a statement this week Frutarom Switzerland said it would be showing three new creations - including one of the first products borne from the new collaboration. Targeted at manufacturers of clear beverages, EFLA New Water is based on clear soluble herbal extracts manufactured from plant raw materials by means of a 'very gentle extraction method and an exclusive filtering procedure'. Aiming once again at the beverage industry, Frutarom and Flachsmann have come together to design Pampanilla - a grapefruit flavour from the Israeli company combined with Flachsmann's herbal extracts, represented in the form of a vanilla extract. Under the slogan 'Get in Shape', Frutarom Switzerland has firmly positioned the third product - FLA 920 Green Maté Special Extract, a standardised herbal extract - in the health and fitness market. Flachsmann, which also makes pharmaceutical and nutraceuticals, posted sales of about €30 million in 2002.
