VitiLife for high anthocyanin content

French polyphenols specialist La Gardonnenque has launched a
standardised blend of red grape anthocyanins, designed to offer the
benefits of anthocyanins alongside optimum antioxidant activity.

The anthocyanin blend, called VitiLife, contains a standardised minimum level of 8 per cent anthocyanins and more than 70 per cent polyphenols.

Anthocyanins are compounds that give berries and other fruits their red, pink or blue colour. They are gaining increasing interest for their health properties. Recent studies show that they may help to fight onset of heart disease and they have also been linked to improved brain function.

Today more than 200 individual anthocyanins have been identified. A three-year European-funded project is currently investigating the functional properties of flavonoids and their influence on heart disease.

In addition to its anthocyanin content, independent laboratory tests have found VitiLife to have an ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) level higher than that naturally found in cocoa, rosemary and green tea, at 10670 mmol trolox equivalent per gram.

La Gardonnenque, which claims to be the world's largest manufacturer of grape polyphenols and natural colours for food, says that the powdered extract is suitable for use in food, supplements and beverages and can also be mixed with other antioxidants.
