Finnish research and regulatory services firm Life-science-man is
adding lab space through a merger with contract research firm
FoodFiles.

The company, founded in 2002, had previously been offering its clients contract research services carried out by FoodFiles. It has now signed a letter of intent to acquire the business from parent group Medikalla.

Life-science-man has previously carried out work for a number of major food and pharma customers, including AstraZenca, Danisco Sugar, Karl Fazer, Novartis Finland, Valio and Unilever. It says the deal will allow it to add lab space to its current offering of business advice and regulatory expertise.

Although it remains a small company, it claims to offer advantages over European competitors, most of which are government-funded or university-based.

"There is a difference in speed for project through-times with private service providers," the firm's managing director Anu Harkki told NutraIngredients.com.

"With private service providers it is critical that customers are happy with the quality of the service."

She added that the firm was likely to be competitive in terms of costs over some of the bigger private research firms in the US.

The company currently attracts business from Europe and the US food and pharma sectors.

"We are very strong when it comes to talking about GI, and foods that impact insulin levels like fibres," noted Harkki.
