Burgundy partnership to secure product quality

French grape extracts firm Burgundy has raised its focus on quality
by entering into a long-term agreement with one of its raw material
suppliers, giving it greater control over the production process.

The company has an exclusive agreement with the Thouarcé distillery, which supplies red grape skins for different extracts offered by Burgundy.

Charles Duval, production and site operations manager, told NutraIngredients.com that the partnership, completed earlier this year, would allow it to guarantee the quality of its products.

"It is difficult to obtain the levels of quality we require when using different suppliers," he said. "Now we can have more input into the production process and total traceability for our products."

The grape extracts market is maturing, with the main players now well-defined. Quality, along with pricing, is therefore a key area of competition.

All grape extracts produced by Burgundy are kosher, with their compounds analysed by HPLC.

The company, which claims to have seen annual growth of more than 30 per cent in its grape extracts, well above the market rate, also gains a secure raw material supply for its anthocyanins and level costs over the long-term, reinforcing its leading position in the marketplace.

It also supplies the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and wine industries.
