Nutritional lipid firm Enzymotec said today it has increased its
production capacity at its multipurpose plant by around a third,
following strong demand for its range of products, reports
Dominique Patton.

The Israel-based company that makes PS, modified phytosterols and triglycerides, said it had finished expansion a few weeks ago.

"We expanded our capacity by around 33 per cent. We hope our competitors will also expand and help to grow the market," Dr Ariel Katz, CEO of Enzymotec, told NutraIngredients.com.

Phosphatidylserine (PS), derived from soybeans, has been shown to enhance memory and cognitive performance, and is targeted at both the elderly and young adults under stress. Enzymotec says it has seen strong growth in PS sales since entering the market in 2003.

It has recently added non-GM variants of the ingredient as well as high grade lecithin, expected to boost demand.

It has also been promoting its MultOil, made up of 25 per cent phytosterol-esters and 15 per cent DAG, to lower cholesterol.
