PS, omega-3 blend introduced in brain health supplement
seniors based on a proprietary blend of the brain health
ingredients phosphatidylserine and the omega-3 fatty acid DHA,
reports Dominique Patton.
The product is the result of growing product development for the increasing elderly population.
Elderly people are set to make up a quarter of the total European population by 2020. The most dramatic demographic changes are in the oldest age group (80 years and over) that is estimated to grow from 21.4 million in 2000 to 35 million in 2025.
More and more consumers are trying to prevent age-related conditions and guarantee better quality of life in later years.
Fischer, which will sell the new product called Remind in drugstores and pharmacies, will target consumers who are in the forties and conscious about their brain health.
"The Israeli market is well educated about natural supplements solutions and therefore is ready to consume advance brain health formulas," said Sagit Betser, marketing manager at Enzymotec, the firm that developed the key ingredient.
OmegaPS contains 100mg of PS and 500mg of DHA in each daily serving. Phosphatidylserine has been shown to enhance memory and improve mental performance. Growing clinical evidence also supports the essential role of DHA in neuronal functions, with some studies suggesting it could help to slow the onset of Alzheimer's disease.
A recent study conducted by Professor Inna Weiner of the Department of Psychology at Tel-Aviv University supports the beneficial cognitive performance of Remind, according to Enzymotec.
Interestingly, the effect was induced while using only one third of the active ingredient concentration, compared to that used in previous studies.
