LycoRed has fulfilled the FDA's GRAS requirements with its
Lyc-O-Mato Powder for functional foods - news which the company
expects will encourage its use by large food companies.
Ingredient marketer PL Thomas has signed an agreement with Israel's
LycoRed to represent LycoMato to food, beverage and functional
foods companies in the eastern US, Canada and Mexico.
Israel-based LycoRed said last week that its lycopene-rich tomato
powder has been self-affirmed as GRAS (Generally Recognized As
Safe) by an independent panel, paving the way for its use in
functional foods.
The tomato-derived antioxidant lycopene could help promote the
recovery of patients undergoing standard surgical treatment for
advanced prostate cancer, say researchers reporting on a small
trial.
