Denomega Nutritional Oils has announced the Health Canada approval
of its omega-3 ingredients for use in most foods, thereby opening
up another market to the company.

The Norweigan manufacturer has developed what it claims are taste and odor free omega-3 fatty acid rich fish oils, called Denomega 100. The approval from the Canadian government health agency allows for use of the ingredient up to Health Canada's general guidance limit at 100 mg of combined DHA and EPA per serving. "The formal approval is important for our prospective customers in Canada", said Denomega CEO Thomas Grys. Denomega 100 can also be sold in its microencapsulated versions of the oil, provided that its additives are permitted by the regulations. "This enables usage in Canadian food products that has never been possible to fortify with DHA and EPA Omega-3 before, particularly shelf stable solutions requiring more than 6 months shelf life", said Jan Haakonsen, VP sales and marketing. The company said its omega-3 ingredients are already used in over 50 commercial food products worldwide. DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) which have been shown to support cognition and cardiovascular function.
