Cactus Botanicals is introducing a potent 80 percent myricetin
ingredient from bayberry bark for use in supplements in the United
States.

The dry extract is 100 percent water-soluble, at 80 percent tested HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography). The category of flavonoids as a whole has been gaining increasing clout as the body of scientific literature behind it grows - which in turn should make it easier for Cactus Botanicals to market this concentration of the extract. These flavonoids are associated with lowering the risk of prostate cancer and lowering high cholesterol levels. Myricetin are found in food sources such as berries, vegetables and herbs, but Cactus Botanicals' extract is sourced from the bark myrica cerifera. The company said myricetin is commonly marketed as an ingredient in products designed to help consumers stop smoking as it is believed the compound blocks certain enzymes within the body. Myricetin is also considered to be an antioxidant, ridding the body of cancer causing free radicals. Historical uses of myricetin, according to Cactus Botanicals, include treatments for diarrhea, dysentery and fevers. Cactus Botanicals is based in the United Kingdom, with operations in China as well.
