Cyvex and C.K. Foods tackle Canadian nutra market

Cyvex Nutrition has teamed up with C.K. Foods in a multi-year distribution deal that will give the supplier access to the Canadian market.

Cyvex said the agreement follows on the heels of the success of its branded PomActiv pomegranate extract in the country.

Toronto-based C.K. Foods is also launching a new division, CK Nutritional Ingredients.

The move reflects the opportunities both companies see for scientifically researched nutraceuticals in the Canadian market.

"The Canadian dietary supplement market is thriving, and through CK Nutritional Ingredients, Cyvex' proprietary nutraceuticals are perfectly poised to bring effective natural health solutions to Canadian consumers," said Charlene Lee, executive vice president and general manager of Cyvex Nutrition.

California-based Cyvex has been supplying proprietary ingredients, including antioxidants, to the dietary supplement and functional foods industries for over two decades.

The company's CEO and founder, Gilbert Gluck, originally started up Cyvex in Toronto in 1984.

In 2005, C.K. Foods collaborated with Cyvex to bring PomActiv to the Canadian market.

"The partnership has been a resounding success and has led to the recent formation of a broad-based strategic alliance between our CK Nutritional Ingredients division, and Cyvex," said Michael Chernyak, General Manager of C.K. Foods Inc. Under the present agreement, CK Nutritional Ingredients is set to market, sell, warehouse and distribute Cyvex's range of proprietary and branded ingredients.

In addition to PomActiv, this will include: AppleZin apple extract, BerryVin high-ORAC berry ingredients, AvoVida avocado and soy unsaponifiables, BioVin whole grape extract, BioVin advanced French red wine extract, BioVinca vinpocetine, BroccoPhane broccoli sprout powder, CranVida cranberry extract and Q-Vida quebracho extract.

The Canadian company affirms it has assessed the market potential for Cyvex's ingredients north of the border.

"We carefully researched our target market and it is apparent to us that there is significant potential for Cyvex's innovative and highly marketable nutritional compounds in the Canadian dietary supplement and natural health products marketplace," said Chernyak.

CK Nutritional Ingredients will begin rolling out Cyvex's range later this month.
