DSM has unveiled a range of instant beverage premixes packed with nutrients to allow formulators to easily turn ordinary soft drinks into specific health products.

Instead of using single ingredients, manufacturers can use the ready-to-use formulations to easily deliver health benefits. DSM summarised the appeal of the Quali-Blends in three words: simplification, protection, and performance.

Premix range

Visitors to Food Ingredients Europe in Frankfurt last week were given ten nutritional pre-mixes to choose from, including to products for heart health, healthy aging, immune system support and essential nutrition.

These premixes can be simply added to formulations without requiring customers to pay careful attention to levels and proportions of ingredients. DSM said the mixes are also entirely traceable and fully quality assured.

“Extremely user-friendly, the premixes simply dissolve in liquid without affecting the flavour of the final product,” said Anthony Hehir, market development manager at DSM.

They are well adapted to beverages but may also be used in other food and drink products. "The health benefits can be easily incorporated into dry mix beverage formulations, as the products themselves are dry mixes," said John Biggs, DSM global marketing manager beta-carotene. "However, our formulation expertise means that the concepts are transferrable into a wide range of food and beverage products."

New website

Alongside the launch of the beverage premixes DSM has also developed a dedicated website for its Quali-Blends products.

This online resource has been built to provide easy to use assistance for product concept development and formulation.

The site www.quali-blends.com hosts a formulation centre where manufacturers can input their application requirements for DSM to calculate a tailored solution. It is envisaged that manufacturers will use this function as a first step on the road to product development.
