The fibre-boosting weight management ingredient chitin-glucan has won European Commission Novel Foods approval after the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) approved its safety in August, 2010.

The Artinia-branded extract from the Aspergillus niger​ fungus that is the property of a joint venture between Belgian firm KitoZyme and Missouri-based Stratum Nutrition will be permitted for use in food supplements within the European Union’s 27 member states at a maximum dose of 5g per day.
