Apps developed by Systemedicus, a spin-out from natural health products contract research organisation (CRO) Medicus, turn iPads and iPods into tools for a variety of clinical trial tasks. Medicus has been using the tools on its own clinical trials and is now looking to expand use.
“We are in the process of licensing [the products] out to other CROs and sponsors. We’ve seen a high level of interest because it answers a lot of questions that could never be determined before”, Jay Udani, CEO of Systemedicus and Medicus Research, told Outsourcing-Pharma.
For example, the patient compliance device proves the patient took a pill everyday by recording a video of them taking each dose. Other tools developed by Systemedicus cover informed consent and data collection.
