Stern promotes “homogenous distribution” in food supplement compounds

German micronutrient specialist, Stern-Wywiol Gruppe-owned SternVitamin, is emphasising “homogeneous distribution” to combat inaccurate dosing in food supplements.

“When powders are made up into tablets, especially, the active ingredients may separate during filling or pressing,” said Dr Sabine Hildebrandt, a food chemist from SternVitamin’s Research and Development department.

“The result is inaccurate dosing. With low-dose nutrients like vitamin B12, vitamin D and biotin, especially, fluctuations in the content of the active ingredient have an adverse effect. To prevent that, granulation of powdered masses has become an established step in the process of tablet production.”
