Vitafoods Asia 2012 will delve into three key industry issues that plague operating in the vast region’s functional food and supplements arena – regulation, trends and opportunities.

The trade show takes place in Hong Kong on 5-7 September this year and includes a seminar area that will host a variety of talks from various industry figures.

This will be Vitafoods’ second Asian show and is set to be twice as big as last year.

Chris Lee, Vitafoods Portfolio Director, said that seminars will provide “cutting-edge insights”​ involving a host of people in the nutraceuticals sector.

“From regulation ad trends to the latest product information, the seminar theatre will cover the key issues that will prove essential for any business operating in the Asian nutraceuticals market,”​ Lee said.

In a keynote speech Gao Peng, secretary-general of the consultation committee at the China Health Care Association, will discuss the regulatory situation of China’s functional food market and the key opportunities within the sector.

Katrina Diamonon, senior analyst at Datamonitor Australia, will discuss 10 trends to watch in consumer-driven packaging innovation in Asia’s functional food sector, detailing how consumer needs translate into packaging information, design and format.

Nagendra Shah, a professor from the Hong Kong Food Science and Technology Association, will talk about bioactive peptides release.

Dan Souza, senior director of sales and marketing for Decas Botanical Synergies, will discuss the health claims landscape for cranberry with in-depth analysis on science and substantiation of claims.

Jacob Bauly, global marketing manager for DSM Nutritional Products, will discuss natural solutions for relaxation, sleep and mental energy delving into the extent of consumer needs in this area.

Charlotte Beyerhold, marketing manager at Chr Hansen, will jointly talk about the common misconceptions on probiotics with colleague Sune Schmoelker the sales director for Asia Pacific.

Dr Anneli Tarpila, clinical trial manager at DuPont Nutrition and Health, will discuss the role of ‘good bacteria’ in the battle against the common cold.

Polly Olson, vice president of New Business, Sales and Marketing at Davisco Foods, is set to discuss whey protein uses and differences while outlining upcoming trends in the functional sector.
