Capol stands to learn a lot from working in supplements, its CEO says
German confectionery coatings firm Capol plans to venture into the supplements sector to establish a second business pillar for growth and gain technological knowledge, its CEO says.

Matthias Seemann made clear however that this shift is a secondary area for the firm and Capol’s primary business and focus would remain in confectionery.

Speaking exclusively to ConfectioneryNews.com at ProSweets 2013 in Cologne, Seemann revealed why the company wants to develop in this new market area.

“Especially in the production of supplements, you have a lot of technological overlap… And we believe that we can provide a huge technical service and also the right products for making these products even more attractive in the future,” the CEO said.

‘Our expertise is the aesthetics of these products’

Seemann said that within such a large and competitive supplements sector, Capol had the expertise of aesthetics when it came to coatings.

“Sooner or later, the aesthetics of these products plays a significant role in the purchase… We believe we can solve their issues related to this and also bring some new aspects,” he said.

Second-pillar for growth and synergies

The CEO said that working in supplements coatings would provide a second-pillar of business.

He also identified synergies between this new market area and the confectionery sector.

“We believe we may learn a lot of new technological aspects about production which we can transfer again. Also…you may transfer certain ideas from the supplement market also to the candy industry,” Seemann said.

“It’s not so far out of the box to think about functional confectionery,” he added.

The CEO said that Capol is involved in the functional sector but it is smaller and the predominant focus remains on the confectionery market.
