Supplier wrap: Algae, caviar omega-3s, probiotic drops, vaginal suppositories

A Spanish research institute and a start-up are investigating the potential of micro-algaes to deliver high-end omega-3s.

The project is funded by Farmaraba, part of Grupo Elgorriaga, which is working with the Basque Institute for Agricultural Research and Development (Neiker-Tecnalia) on the project.

They have already obtained high-dose omega-3 meal and have been experimenting with different micro-algae species and fermentation conditions.

Norwegian firm Clare has also worked with independent  researchers – in its case the University of Tromsø - on herring caviar-sourced omega-3 and is launched four new versions at the Vitafoods trade show next week.
