Finnish food major Fazer Group has lodged a health claim application with EFSA for rye bread.

The health claims relate to fiber content and glycemic response. The application requests for the claims ‘high-fiber sourdough rye bread’ and ‘contributes to a reduction of glycemic response accompanies with a decreased insulin response after a meal’.

Leena Majamäki, vice president of corporate affairs for Fazer Group, said the company has not received any feedback yet from EFSA’s health claim panel.

She said that the application was based on a special manufacturing process.
