WATCH: Introducing the Sports & Active Nutrition Series
Over the coming weeks, NutraIngredients' online event series will look at how the sports nutrition market is evolving and how market trends are playing a role in its development both pre and post COVID-19.
But before those sessions begin, NutraIngredients presents an introduction in which the event's hosts discuss the biggest news stories to come from the past year.

Performance & Recovery
The category-focused sessions kick off with a Performance & Recovery episode on the 30 September at 14:00 BST.
Here, Nick Morgan, founder of Sports Integrated asks if performance and recovery has evolved beyond protein or preworkouts, and if innovation focus is on the core or new products, ingredients and benefits.
Nick will be joined by:

The Gut Microbiome
The series continues with The Gut Microbiome episode airing on 7 October at 14:00 BST, where NutraIngredients’ section editor Nikki Hancocks takes over chairing duties.
This broadcast will look into the gut and digestive system’s role in human health and sporting performance whilst examining the emerging evidence and the strategies that support performance.
Philip Calder, professor of nutritional immunology at the university of Southampton, will join Nikki as will Brad Schwan, senior director of marketing at ADM and Mariëtte Abrahams, CEO of Qina.
Brain Performance (eSports)
Rounding off the series is our Brain Performance episode with a focus on esports on 14 October at 14:00 BST.
Here NutraIngredients’ science editor Will Chu takes the lead in discussing the emergence of nutrition for brain health, its relevance for optimal sporting performance and its applications in the field of esports.
Along with esport and gaming expert Koen Schobbers, the session also welcomes Marko Hill, Gencor Pacific’s product development executive and Erik Bakkers, innovation & marketing director at vaneeghen.
Rounding off the line-up is Tony Gay, head of technical sales & NPD, nutrition at Prinova.
Together, the session will be a real eyeopener with product makers and ingredient suppliers behind a wave of health-focused meal replacement shakes, supplements and energy bars catering to this industry.
This session looks to explore the science behind these products and ingredients, how they aid in achieving the right mindset and how brands can appeal to this demographic to ensure peak gaming performance.
