Spain-based botanical ingredients business Nektium has broadened its portfolio to enter the food and beverage market, enabling its products to be used in a variety of applications in addition to supplements.

The expansion means the company’s clinically researched and branded plant extracts can now be included in cereal bars, gummies, dairy products and sports and energy drinks.

The existing offering

Nektium’s portfolio currently includes three flagship products. Its proprietary mango leaf extract (Mangifera indica), Zynamite, is clinically proven to improve sports performance, both physically and mentally.

The company also supplies Rhodiolife, the adaptogen rhodiola plant extract (Rhodiola rosea) that has been found to aid endurance and boost cognitive health. Its third flagship offering is its proprietary botanical blend for weight management, Xanthigen.

Thomas Adler, Chief Business Officer at Nektium, said: “The health benefits of natural plant extracts are gaining wider recognition, which means there is an exciting opportunity to take them beyond the dietary supplement and nutraceutical categories and into the more mainstream food and beverage sector.

“Following significant investment in our research and manufacturing capabilities, we have now been able to adapt our botanical ingredients so that they are suitable for use in a wide range of food and beverage applications, opening a major new opportunity for brands that are looking to harness growing consumer demand for natural health benefits in everyday products.”

An organic operator

The expansion follows Nektium’s recent announcement that it has become a fully certified organic operator.

Adler added: “Increasing numbers of consumers are looking for natural health products that have been manufactured in a sustainable way. Organic is a great way to communicate the ethical values of a brand to shoppers, so we’re excited that we can now offer our customers this option.”

Founded in Gran Canaria in 1997, Nektium is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, it has revealed a newly designed website at www.nektium.com.
