The highlight of the microbiome health industry calendar, this year’s Probiota conference (Feb. 11-13) will provide its unrivalled mix of world-leading expert presentations, inspiring roundtables, innovative pioneers and unmissable networking opportunities.

Hosted by NutraIngredients in association with the International Probiotics Association, the three-day conference, taking place at the Convention Centre Dublin, will provide colleagues with the latest need-to-know updates to deliver intelligence, inspire innovation and support business growth.

Providing eye-opening insights into the concerns of Gen Z consumers, Ewa Hudson, director of insights at Lumina Intelligence, will deliver data unveiling how young consumers in the UK, US and China are reshaping the wellness landscape.

Next-gen probiotic insights will be provided by leading scientists and researchers including: Dr. Johanna Maukonen, global director of clinical innovation and translation at IFF Health Sciences; Dr. Rachel Anderson, science team leader at New Zealand’s Bioeconomy Science Institute; Dr. Richard Day, VP of medical affairs and clinical development, health and wellness at ADM; and Dr. Koen Venema, founder and CEO of the Beneficial Microbes Consultancy.

Covering postbiotics, Colin Hill, professor of microbiology at University College Cork and founding principal investigator of APC Microbiome Ireland, will explore the ISAPP definition of postbiotics and explain how these microbial components can deliver meaningful health benefits.

Looking to the future, Wilbert Sybesma, founder of Microbiome Solutions, will explore how technology, regulation, and consumer expectations may shape the adoption of improved probiotic strains.

Outlining recent advances in “Fermentbiome” research, Professor Paul Cotter, head of food biosciences at Teagasc and head of microbiology at SeqBiome, will discuss fermented food microbiomes and their link to the gut microbiomes of consumers.

The conference will bring together panel discussions between thought leaders including Muriel Gonzalez, president of The Vitamin Shoppe; Linda Neckmar, senior vice president of human health at Novonesis; Dr. John Hale, chief technology officer at BLIS Technologies; and Dr. Marco Pane, chief scientific officer at Probiotical.

Rules and regs

Ensuring Probiota guests are the best informed when it comes to regulatory updates, this year will gather insights from Cathrine Löfgren, project manager at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden; Yolanda Garcia-Cazorla, scientific officer at the European Food Safety Authority; Rosanna Pecere, executive director of the International Probiotics Association; and Ivan Wasserman, managing partner at Amin Wasserman Gurnani.

Scientists and innovators compete

Probiota’s annual ‘Scientific Frontiers’ competition—in which NutraIngredients chooses the best research abstracts submitted by students and industry—will see winning entrants present their research on stage.

The conference will also host its Probiota Pioneers competition, which will turn the spotlight onto three innovative early-stage companies chosen to showcase their solutions on stage. This year’s winning pioneers are Luvbiotics, Microvitality and Totality Biosciences.

Networking on the agenda

With the event known for its excellent networking opportunities, the agenda will provide a wellness program consisting of a 5k morning run on Day Two, as well as a morning yoga session on Day Three, to open conversation in an informal setting and wake up delegates for their day of discovery and connection.
