Created in partnership with at-home health and microbiome testing platform Tiny Health, the test incorporates shotgun metagenomics sequencing, a gold-standard technique that academic institutions and laboratories use.
Vivek Lal, MD, founder and CEO of Resbiotic, says the new test differentiates itself by incorporating Resbiotic’s proprietary Gut-X Axis approach to personalization, which addresses how gut health communicates with and influences other body systems.
“The test provides deeper insight into key gut microbiome patterns, including microbial diversity, beneficial bacteria, short-chain fatty acid potential, digestive function and inflammatory signals,” he said. “Resbiotic then helps translate those insights into practical, product-guided recommendations so consumers can make more informed decisions about their wellness routine.”
Customers use a swab from the test kit to collect a small fecal sample from toilet paper after a bowel movement and place it in the collection tube and send it back in the prepaid mailer. The goal is to make microbiome testing feel approachable, simple and easy to complete at home, Lal said.
Each test provides a personalized report and offers recommendations including which Resbiotic formula consumers should consider based on the test data. It includes information on markers of gut-driven inflammation, indicators of leaky gut, levels of keystone bacteria including Akkermansia and Bifidobacterium, and signals related to metabolic and immune function.
The test is also HSA/FSA eligible and ships directly to the customer, who are encouraged to test every 60 to 90 days to determine progress over time.
Commitment to rigorous science
The partnership with Tiny Health grew out of a shared commitment to bringing more science, transparency and personalization to the microbiome space, Lal said.
“The gut microbiome is one of the most important windows into human health, and for too long it’s been inaccessible to the people who need it most,” said Cheryl Sew Hoy, CEO and founder of Tiny Health, in a statement. “Tiny Health and Resbiotic share the same commitment to rigorous science, and together, we can give people a real picture of what’s happening in their gut and a concrete path to act on it. That’s how microbiome health moves from the lab into everyday life.”
Resbiotic first focused on building a portfolio of precision microbiome solutions with clear mechanisms, targeted use cases and product-level validation that includes human randomized controlled trials. As that platform matured, Lal said that next logical step was to help customers better understand their own microbiome and use those insights to make more informed decisions.
“Now is the right time because consumers are increasingly looking for personalization, transparency and data to guide their wellness routines,” he added.
As for how this data will aid Resbiotic long term, Lal said aggregated and de-identified trends may help the company understand common microbiome patterns, consumer needs and areas where targeted support is most relevant.
“For product development, this can help inform how we approach future innovation across the Gut-X Axis, including opportunities to refine education, build more personalized product protocols or develop solutions that address emerging patterns in gut and whole-body wellness,” he noted.
“The test also strengthens our ability to connect microbiome insights to real-world product use. It helps move the conversation from general gut health to more personalized, data-informed support, which is central to how Resbiotic thinks about the future of precision microbiome solutions.”
