Japanese brands seek to dispel image of protein shakes with new functional beverages

Two supplement brands in Japan have released powder-based functional beverages that focus on a juice-like experience to dispel the common consumer perception of protein shakes.
FUJIMI, a subsidiary brand of cosmetics giant POLA-ORBIS Group, for instance, has developed lighter, fruity flavors of protein beverages, such as Clear Lemonade, as an alternative to heavy, milky protein shakes.
KINS, which specializes in microbiome science, has developed VINEGAR PROTEIN, a line of powder-form functional beverages that produce a vinegar-like taste and “does not feel like protein”.
Vietnam and beyond: Nutifood vice-chair on infant nutrition business strategy

Vietnamese dairy company Nutifood is actively working with business partners from the United States and Australia to raise the quality and brand reputation of its infant nutrition products—a move it believes is important to lead in the local market and expand overseas.
In May, the company announced that its formula containing a proprietary ratio of human milk oligosaccharide 2’-fucosyllactose (2’-FL) and fructooligosaccharide (FOS) for digestive and immune support received patent approval from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
One of its products, Nutifood GrowPLUS+, was developed based on this patented formula.
Suntory embarks on real-world evidence studies as part of NPD strategy

Suntory’s Institute for Science of Life is conducting a series of real-world evidence studies on its nutraceutical products as part of its new product development strategy.
Known as the Wellness Life Study, this is a series of longitudinal observational studies that measure multidimensional wellbeing indicators, including physical condition, mental state and social relationships.
Real-world evidence studies allow the company to tap into its vast consumer database, which currently spans more than two million users annually through its mail-order service.
NVP Healthcare eyes foothold in Latin America through partnership with Brazilian firm

South Korean biohealth firm NVP Healthcare has signed an exclusive supply deal with Brazilian pharmaceutical firm Marjan Farma for its proprietary probiotic ingredient, as it seeks to bolster its presence in Latin America.
Under the agreement, NVP Healthcare will serve as the sole supplier of its NVP-1702 probiotic while Marjan Farma will develop and commercialize finished products containing the ingredient in Brazil.
Through the partnership, NVP Healthcare believes it can establish a strong foundation for expansion into Brazil and the broader Latin American market.
Icle Time bolsters position in children’s height growth category with renewed products

South Korean health functional food brand Icle Time says it has further strengthened its position in the children’s height growth category following the launch of two renewed products in its premium line in April.
The products are Height Growth Premium Alpha and Height Growth Premium Pro.
Specializing in dietary supplements to boost children’s growth and development for nearly a decade, Icle Time recently announced that it has surpassed 980,000 cumulative customers.
