What sets a clinically researched shatavari extract apart?

For thousands of years, Ayurveda has regarded shatavari as the “Queen of Herbs”.

Its botanical name, Asparagus racemosus, is less familiar than its Sanskrit name, often translated as “she who possesses a hundred husbands”, a traditional expression associated with feminine vitality, resilience, and reproductive wellbeing.

Across generations, women have used shatavari during different stages of life, including the reproductive years, postpartum recovery, lactation, and the menopausal transition. As an Ayurvedic rasayana and adaptogenic botanical, shatavari has traditionally been valued for supporting resilience and helping restore physiological balance.

Its long history of use is compelling. However, traditional recognition has not always been matched by rigorous clinical substantiation or consistent product standardization.

Shatavari contains a complex range of naturally occurring constituents, including steroidal saponins known as shatavarins, as well as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, polysaccharides, and mucilage. These constituents are believed to contribute collectively to the plant’s biological activity.

Yet extraction methods, analytical testing, botanical sourcing, and concentrations of key constituents can vary considerably among commercially available extracts. Consequently, products sold under the same botanical name may not necessarily be clinically or compositionally equivalent.

SRI-81® Shatavari was developed to help close this gap. Developed over eight years by Ixoreal Biomed Inc, the company behind KSM-66® Ashwagandha, SRI-81 focuses on an evidence-based approach through controlled cultivation, standardized manufacturing, analytical characterization, and an expanding clinical research program.

Backed by 18 clinical studies and built on a fully controlled, sustainably farmed supply chain, SRI-81 is now positioned as an extensively researched, rigorously standardized, and dependable shatavari extract for formulators anywhere in the world.

Most clinically researched shatavari extract

Across 18 studies SRI-81 Shatavari has been shown to help harmonize hormones and support reproductive health, ease menopausal symptoms – such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, mood swings, and night sweats – and improve emotional wellbeing, enhance libido and sexual vitality, boost lactation and support postpartum recovery, as well as reduce stress while improving mood and sleep.

What makes this evidence usable, rather than just impressive, is where it lives. Every core SRI-81 Shatavari study is published in a peer-reviewed, PubMed-indexed journal – not circulated as internal data or unpublished white paper claims.

That distinction is worth formulators checking for directly: an extract’s clinical story is only as strong as its willingness to survive independent peer review.

Full-spectrum, standardized root extract

SRI-81 Shatavari is a root-only extract, standardized to greater than 10% total Shatavarins as measured by HPLC – high-performance liquid chromatography, the analytical gold standard for quantifying shatavarin content accurately.

That detail matters more than it might seem: a number of suppliers still measure total shatavarins using TLC or HPTLC, methods that are considerably less precise for this purpose. An extract’s stated potency is only as trustworthy as the method used to measure it, and HPLC is the benchmark formulators should be asking for.

The 10% figure itself reflects deliberate calibration, not a race to the highest number on a spec sheet. Push shatavarin concentration too high, and an extract begins to behave less like a whole-root botanical and more like an isolated pharmaceutical compound – narrowing its effect profile and raising safety questions.

Push it too low, and formulators are forced into impractically high dosages just to see a meaningful effect, or worse, a diluted extract is dosed low deliberately to cut cost while efficacy quietly suffers.

SRI-81 Shatavari is standardized specifically to the range Ixoreal’s research has identified as optimal for efficacy – high enough to work at a sensible dose, low enough to preserve the whole-root complex of saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, polysaccharides, and mucilage.

Neutral taste and solubility

Raw shatavari extract has a formulation problem that has nothing to do with clinical data: it is bitter, astringent, and notoriously difficult to dissolve, which has historically limited its use in beverages, gummies, and other consumer-friendly formats. SRI-81 Shatavari was engineered specifically to solve that, with a neutral taste profile and meaningfully improved solubility.

That means fewer masking agents, simpler formulations, and a far shorter path from raw ingredient to a finished product consumers actually want to take a second time – which matters just as much to repeat-purchase rates as any other claim.

Vertical integration, from root to finished extract

Much of the inconsistency in the shatavari category traces back to a structural problem. Roots are bought on the open market, often from a shifting mix of growers, and processing is outsourced to third-party manufacturers with no direct stake in the ingredient’s long-term consistency.

Ixoreal built SRI-81 Shatavari the opposite way. The only company that controls organic cultivation, sourcing, extraction, and pharma-grade manufacturing under one roof, with sustainable farming practices built into that process from the ground up. That vertical integration is what allows Ixoreal to guarantee root-only sourcing, batch-to-batch consistency, and full traceability.

Safety and quality standards

Rigor doesn’t stop at the clinical data or the supply chain – it extends to how clean the finished extract actually is. SRI-81 Shatavari is manufactured to pharma-grade standards and independently verified through 27 third-party quality certifications covering safety, purity, and manufacturing quality at every stage of production.

That also means an extract that is genuinely clean and organic, free of unnecessary excipients or contamination risk. This is another item worth confirming directly with any shatavari supplier, since “clean” is a claim too often made without independent verification behind it.

Sustainability that extends wellness beyond the individual

Because Ixoreal controls its own farming practices rather than sourcing anonymously from the open market, the benefits of sustainable cultivation ripple outward – to the farming communities who grow the root, to the animals sharing that agricultural ecosystem, and to the land itself.

It’s a fitting extension of what shatavari has always represented in Ayurvedic tradition: a plant that doesn’t just support the individual but restores balance to the wider system. In a market where sourcing transparency increasingly drives purchase decisions, it’s a sustainability story Ixoreal can substantiate, not just market.

Women at the core of everything

At Ixoreal BioMed, women are at the core of SRI-81 Shatavari production. From the chairperson of the company to 80% of its workforce at its manufacturing units, and 98% of farmers on its own farms. Women lead and strengthen every level of SRI-81 Shatavari’s production.

Ixoreal BioMed’s commitment extends beyond the workplace: every year, we support thousands of girls with free education and healthcare and fund women’s safety initiatives in partnership with the state police.

We would also like to add the terms hot flashes, vaginal dryness, mood swings and night sweats while discussing about the menopausal symptoms.
