Pharmed Medicare adds softgels to dosage forms

Indian health ingredients supplier Pharmed Medicare is expanding
its range of dosage forms through a new agreement with softgel
maker Gelnova.

President Sundeep Aurora said the alliance "gets us into softgels in a substantial manner", expanding its private label dosage forms that already include tablets, hard shell capsules, shakes, gels and liquids.

Gelnova, based in Mumbai, has capacity of 600 million softgels annually.

Pharmed will also be introducing new softgel options like chewable softgels at the upcoming Vitafoods show in Geneva.

Soft capsules are generally considered to be a premium dosage form and are increasingly favoured in the supplement industry. For consumers they are easier to swallow and do not have the taste issues that can occur with hard capsules.

They also offer benefits for manufacturers, particularly with oil-based or liquid products, and their total encapsulation protects oxygen-sensitive ingredients.

"We will be offering free support to customers for dosage form development to assist them in regulatory compliance and introduction of unique products in their markets," said Aurora.
