More than 1.3billion people in APAC will be over the age of 60 by 2050, opening up huge opportunities for food, beverage and nutrition firms who can tailor NPD to this demographic, while also tapping into the health and wellness trends among younger consumers who are taking responsibility to ensure they live a more healthy, as well as older age.

That’s the key message being delivered by the forward-thinking business preparing to take to the stage, and sponsor, this year’s Healthy Ageing APAC Summit, which is taking place in Singapore this week.

Organised by FoodNavigator-Asia and NutraIngredients-Asia, the event will see more than 180 delegates from 26 countries convene in Singapore at the Hilton hotel.

They will be discussing, debating and networking how the industry can meet the needs of the 1.3bn older consumers across the region by 2050, a number that stood at 550m just two years ago.

The will also be hearing from keynote speakers from some of the world’s biggest brands, including Nestle, PepsiCo, FANCL, Kirin, Blackmores / BioCeuticals, retailers Lawson and Redmart, acadmics from Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and the UK, along with leading suppliers such as DuPont, AstaReal, Gencor and Tru Niagen.

Responsible nutrition

Editor-in-Chief of FoodNavigator-Asia and NutraIngredient-Asia, and region head of APAC at publisher William Reed, Gary Scattergood said: “The aging population is one of the biggest demographic the Asia-Pacific region faces, and the fact that so many major brands, suppliers and academics are devoting their time to discuss how the food, beverage and nutrition sector can play their parts in improving public health through innovation, NPD and responsible business development is a testament to all involved.

“Over the coming years, the demand for nutrition and food products suitable for the elderly population will soar, while younger people are increasingly aware that the nutrition and health choices they make today will affect their quality of life in older age.

“We are very much looking forward to hearing from our expert speakers about the emerging food and nutrition solutions for today’s older consumers, and the potential for reformulation, fortification and new ingredient innovations to improve the diets of the wider population in order for them to enjoy a healthier older age in the years to come.”

The event, now in its second year, has seen the number of sponsors double, with leading companies DuPont, Astareal, Gencor, Tru Niagen, Beneo, CP Kelco, Tetra SOD, Rousselot, Cosuscra, TSI and Vitality Wellness backing the 2019 summit.

There will be extensive coverage of the summit across FoodNavigator-Asia and NutraIngredients-Asia across the week, and in the weeks to come, while those unable to join us in Singapore will be able to follow proceeding on twitter, @FoodNavAsia and @NutraAsia, where we’ll posting highlights across the three days on content, debate and networking.
