Prof Luis Vitetta, director of medical research at Medlab Clinical, told NutraIngredients-Asia that the “gut microbiome is at the centre of modulating homeostasis, which is the balance of organ physiology, be it the liver, heart, skeletal muscles, adipose tissues, so it all begins in the gut.”
On the other hand, Dr Natarajan Ranganathan, founder and scientific director at Kibow Biotech pointed out that the medical community was still sceptical towards the credibility of research which looks at the use of probiotics for different health conditions.
However, there is a quicker acceptance among consumers, especially in the US, he added.
