NutraIngredients Section Editor Nikki Hancocks speaks to Lisa MacFarlane, co-founder of The Gut Stuff, to hear her tips on the best ways to educate consumers about gut health in a way which will empower them to buy into the market.

The subject of microbiome modulation is such a science heavy one that it's difficult to know how to put across the wide range of potential health benefits without getting bogged down in scientific terminology and confusing biological mechanisms.

Hence, many consumers are still none the wiser to what the microbiome even is, let alone what products they might be able to take to modulate theirs.

But identical twins Lisa and Alana MacFarlane, radio DJ's turned co-founders of The Gut Stuff, seem to have worked out how to take the nitty-gritty detail of this science and turn it into entertainment for Joe Public.

They host a huge array of public functions, from suppers to city centre take-overs, in which their aim is to ensure attendees leave with a better understanding of the microbiome.

Their journey from DJ festivals to health and wellness sanctuaries has been 'surprisingly organic' though, as Lisa explains in this podcast.
