Omya, the global producer of mineral ingredients based in Switzerland, has developed a natural, easy to process source of calcium that can be added to a range of infant food and formula solutions.

With very fine particles, the new solutions 'Calcipur 115-KP' and '95-KP', have been created to provide a healthy addition to finished products such as baby milk powder, ready to use infant drinks, cereals and biscuits targeted at smaller children.

The firm says its Omya Calcipur KP solutions contain approximately 40% calcium - up to five times more than other solutions - and less than 0.5ppm lead, with aluminium and cadmium content 'well below' the specified reference values.

The very fine particle size helps to prevent sedimentation, offer smoother mouthfeel and provides ease of processing as it can: work as an anti-caking agent in powders, reduce dusting, help correct pH-values and provide a strong 'whiteness' for a 'pure, wholesome and high-quality appearance'.

Stefan Lander, Vice President of consumer goods and group sales & marketing at Omya, says: “Our Calcipur KP-line provides the highest standards for infant nutrition. Combining nutritional benefits with ease of processing, the natural ingredients make it easy to develop innovative and all-round infant food solutions.”
