Lactalis Ingredients has launched a new minimally processed micellar casein offering a high protein and amino acid profile.

The new Pronativ Native Micellar Casein is being marketed as a pure and natural protein which uses a cold filtration method to extract whey directly from milk without adding additives or chemicals.

This process keeps the protein in its purest form and very close to its natural structure in the milk, therefore preserving the nutritional value. This ensures the ingredient is rich in bioavailable micellar casein which ensures a prolonged release of amino acids in the blood as well as having a beneficial effect on bone health by preventing osteoporosis.

A micellar casein content of 90% compared to 80% in a conventional milk protein gives this protein interesting functional properties for the formulation of foods with low viscosity, high protein density, and neutral taste.

Lactalis says this ingredient is ideal to tap into the senior nutrition market as well as younger consumers who are buying into the healthy ageing trend. Euromonitor International says consumers are taking a preventative approach from earlier in life, largely through staying active and consuming more protein in order to avoid muscle loss as they age.
