Maryruth's recalls liquid probiotic for infants

According to the Centers for Disease control, “Pseudomonas is a type of bacteria that is found commonly in the environment, like in soil and in water. Of the many different types of Pseudomonas, the one that most often causes infections in humans is called Pseudomonas aeruginosa , which can cause infections in the blood, lungs (pneumonia), or other parts of the body after surgery.” The company, headquartered in Los Angeles, decided to take the precautionary measure after the potential issue was discovered during routine laboratory testing with one of MaryRuth’s manufacturing partners. As a result, the company is asking consumers to throw away any product with affected lot numbers. So far, the only product complaint the company has received with respect to the affected product lots was one report of temporary diarrhea in an older infant after consuming the product. The recall includes lots #100420218 and #100520218, with a UPC barcode number 856645008587, both are 1oz bottles. No other lots or any other MaryRuth’s products are affected by this recall. “We apologize for any concern or inconvenience this situation causes our customers and are here to support them,” said founder and CEO MaryRuth Ghiyam. “MaryRuth’s is dedicated to the safety, health and welfare of its customers above all else, and has invested heavily, and continues to invest, in safety and quality protocols to ensure we produce only the best products.” The products are distributed nationwide through Target, Amazon, and direct sales from the company’s website.
