'Powerful' antioxidant

Flavox Italia, producer and marketer of citrus fruit derivatives with a focus on antioxidant ingredients, has launched an 'extremely powerful' antioxidant ingredient named Flavox.
Very rich in Eriocitrin, the main flavones of Lemons, and in Anthocyanins and Hydrocynammic Acids from Blood Oranges, The ingredient can be blended with any liquid or solid matrix to create a final product with high Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) values (ranging from 600.000 to 900.000 μmol of trolox equivalents /100 g).

In fact, the firm says this ingredient ranks fourth in the classification of more than 3,100 foods in The Antioxidant Food Table, Carlsen, 2010 and on the website Superfoodly.

Dr. Domenico Marchese, Managing Director, says: "Flavox represents one of the most effective tools against Free Radicals, since it is very rich in Eriocitrin, the main flavones of lemons, in Anthocyanins and in Hydrocynammic Acids from Sicilian Blood Oranges - A modern and very powerful Holly Alliance.

"Flavox has many evidences-based properties. It protects the body from an excessive Reactive Oxygen Species production and it reduces inflammatory markers. It is useful to lower the glucose serum level and plasma lipids. It protects the vascular and neuronal functions. It can be used also in topic products as a powerful antimicrobic."

Improving probiotic efficacy

Nuwen, the French natural and sustainable ingredients manufacturer, has launched 'Algalithe P', an ingredient designed to improve the efficacy of probiotics.

'Algalithe P' is an overdried mix of two ingredients; Lithothamnion, a calcified red algae known for its anti-acid properties, and pre-gelatinised corn starch, an excipient used in probiotic formulations.
The firm says their innovative ingredient can improve the efficacy of probiotic formulations via its gastro-resistant properties, allowing the probiotic to maintain cellular integrity and viability until it reaches the target site of action, and a low water activity (Aw) therefore maximising the survival of the strains throughout the shelf life of the finished product.
The high calcium content of lithothamnion also allows Algalithe P access to various claims: 'calcium source', 'high in calcium', and 'reduction of disease risk'.
