The winners of NutraIngredients' ‘Ingredient of the Year: Sports Nutrition Award’ say the accolade empowers them to continue developing the Ayurvedic wisdom of Terminalia arjuna.

Enovate Biolife won the recent accolade for its Oxyjun ingredient - a stimulant-free, proprietary arjunolic acid-free extract of Terminalia arjuna tree bark with a matrix of standardised bioactives, including polyphenols and glycosides, which is clinically proven to improve cardiac output through Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction (LVEF) enhancement.

The ingredient improves VO2 max to help increase the maximum amount of oxygen the body is able to use during physical activity even at a low dose, making it a more cost-effective and versatile option for developing a variety of formulas including capsules and powders for sports and vitality applications.

Speaking about the award, announced during a virtual awards ceremony on May 3rd, Mr. Rajdeep Banerjee, brand manager for Oxyjun, says: ”A recognition such as this acknowledges and appreciates the hard work of our teams that have worked diligently to develop an ingredient distinctively that addresses a market need - in this case, the need for an ingredient that safely enhances cardiac functioning to boost endurance and lower fatigue. Secondly, it motivates us to keep working hard in bringing to the world affordable innovation.”

With this ingredient, the Enovate Biolife team aimed to fill a gap in the market for a clinically proven 100% natural product that improves cardiac output, leading to better circulation and less fatigue.

An RCT conducted in 2016, involving 32 participants, found that, compared with placebo, 56 days of Oxyjun supplementation significantly improved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF).

A further randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial involving 80 participants, published in 2022, showed that the ingredient could improve cardiac pumping capacity by significantly increasing LVEF and reducing fatigue.

It also has an ongoing study on its effect on fatigue and cardiorespiratory fitness in healthy adults which will be the fourth human study utilising the ingredient.

“Enovate Biolife wants to keep educating how Oxyjun is able to increase LVEF and decrease Myocardial Performance Index (MPI) without causing any cardiac injury, showcasing its ability to enhance performance and also protect the heart," adds Banerjee, "NutraIngredients Awards are a stellar recognition embraced by esteemed members in the nutraceuticals industry and therefore, receiving this prestige complements every little effort that we put every day to make our voice heard about the importance for people of all age of keeping the heart muscles strong, to feel less fatigue.”
