The launch builds on the company’s Whole Health Rx telehealth platform which provides clinician-guided prescription access to GLP-1 and testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) medications.
‘Lose weight, not nutrients’
The new line is accompanied by a message notifying consumers that they are to “lose weight, not nutrients.” While GLP-1 drugs are recognized as an effective and rapid slim-down strategy, questions remain around the ramifications and sustainability of the injections for weight loss.
Concerns center around important nutrients that may be lost due to the appetite suppressing effects of GLP-1s, which work by delaying gastric emptying to make patients feel full longer. There are also the side effects like nausea, vomiting and constipation associated with the buildup of food and waste in the digestive tract.
“GLP-1 users face specific nutritional challenges and finding products tailored to these needs can be challenging,” said Tabitha Daley, a registered dietitian nutritionist with The Vitamin Shoppe who helped formulate the GLP-1 Support products.
