Bridging ancient wisdom and modern science for women’s health

The women’s health category is undergoing a transformative shift, says Waleria Health’s Founder Komal Baldwa, who also discusses her role in helping to scientifically validate shatavari for menopause relief.

There is growing awareness surrounding female health, particularly menopause, Baldwa said. She noted the critical need for education about traditional remedies like shatavari, which have been validated through clinical studies for its effectiveness in alleviating menopausal symptoms.

“I do agree that the menopause is finally entering the mainstream conversation, but there is still a lot of awareness that needs to be created around clinically-studied botanical extracts like Aspurūs, our shatavari extract,” Baldwa said.

“Shatavari, though recommended in Ayurveda for women’s health for the millennia…we have been the first one to validate it with a gold standard clinical study and studying across the menopausal symptoms, starting from the intensity of the symptoms across the various stages of the period, pre and postmenopause.”

The study, published in the Cureus Journal of Medical Sciences, found an 85% reduction in hot flashes in four weeks and a 90% reduction in night sweats in eight weeks. Participants also experienced a 60% greater reduction of reported sleeplessness compared to placebo.

Looking ahead, Baldwa said she is committed to deepening menopausal research and validating plant-based solutions, with more studies on the horizon.

“That’s what our journey of being a woman is about, and that’s where we as Waleria bring in the difference,” she added. “What we are trying to bring from the Aspurūs [is] trying not to be a one solution fit for all but rather a personalized solution for every stage. It’s more about the symptoms, which transition through every stage, and that’s where we bring in our expertise.”
