With a growing emphasis on clinical validation and global competitiveness, companies across the dietary supplement landscape made strategic talent moves this spring.

Below is a round-up of the latest appointments across leadership, marketing and R&D, spanning suppliers, manufacturers and government, trade and scientific organizations.

The National Products Association (NPA) appointed Josh Long as vice president of communication and regulatory affairs. He joins the trade association from SupplySide Supplement Journal, where he most recently served as associate editorial director. In his new role, he will help lead the NPA’s efforts in regulatory engagement, public policy advocacy and member education.

“Josh has earned widespread respect across our industry for his thoughtful analysis, sharp reporting and commitment to transparency,” said Daniel Fabricant, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Natural Products Association. “His transition from journalist to advocate is a major asset for NPA and our members as we continue to navigate complex challenges and promote innovation.”

Daniel Flodqvist joined AstaReal AB as the Swedish supplement company’s new CEO. He succeeds Peter Worsöe, who is transitioning to a new role as CEO of AstaReal Inc. in North and South America. Flodqvist has a strong background in leading growth and transformation across both B2B and B2C environments, with experience spanning Europe, the Americas and Asia through executive roles at eye-tracking tech company Tobii and Colgate-Palmolive, among others.

John Quilter joined Gencor as CEO. With a master’s degree in food science, Quilter spent 18 years at Kerry Group as global portfolio vice president of ProActive Health and North America Applied Health and Nutrition Leader. He is also founder & CEO of BiaQ, a strategic advisory firm focused on the food and beverage and consumer health industries. Gencor’s founders and co-owners, Jith Veeravalli and Ramasamy Venkatesh, will continue to serve on the Board of Directors and provide strategic guidance to the Gencor group.

Seed Health appointed Cathrin Bowtell as CEO. Co-founders Raja Dhir and Ara Katz will continue to serve as board director and chairperson, respectively. Bowtell joined Seed Health as chief commercial officer in 2022 before being promoted to company president in 2024. She will continue to steward Seed’s mission of realizing the potential of the microbiome for human and planetary health as the company enters a new phase defined by scale, maturity and continued impact.

Ana Nunes stepped into a new role as business unit director of microbiome & probiotics at Zinereo Pharma. After several years leading global business development at the company, she will now be responsible for shaping the innovation pipeline, brand and market strategy, and international growth in microbiome-based health solutions. Focus areas include fertility, women’s health and preventive care.

Dr. Alphons Philips, PhD, MBA joined Sabinsa as director of scientific affairs. With extensive industry experience in clinical research, consumer product safety, regulatory data science and claims substantiation, he is charged with overseeing initiatives to validate the safety and efficacy of botanical ingredients through human clinical studies, supporting global product development with scientifically established claims, including GRAS affirmations.

Sabinsa also expanded its U.S. team with the addition of Julia Boyd as creative and brand manager, Riley Alexander as Mountain States regional sales manager, Jeff Owen as Southeast regional sales manager, and Don Edwards as West Coast regional sales manager.

Claire Briggs joined the Sabinsa Australia New Zealand (ANZ) team as general manager. In this role, she will lead new product development, navigate regulatory affairs opportunities and drive business growth across the complementary medicine, functional foods and sports nutrition markets. Briggs is a qualified naturopath, nutritionist and herbalist, and most recently, spent seven years with Blackmores Group managing global research and clinical trials.

People Science welcomed Sarah Burden as senior director of sales. With over two decades of experience in the natural products industry, Burden joins People Science from Radicle Science, where she served as senior director of brand partnerships and sales director. She has also held sales and educator roles at iwi, LifeSeasons, Irwin Naturals, New Chapter, MegaFood and Whole Foods.

Courtney Burton joined Qualitas Executive Group as director of operations and delivery. Based in Utah, she brings over a decade of experience leading quality, compliance and operational excellence initiatives across the CPG industry and is charged with overseeing service delivery processes, client engagement and operational growth at Qualitas.

Liya Sharif Lancia joined health tech company Radicle Science as chief marketing officer, bringing more than 20 years of experience in marketing and communications for various technology companies. Her previous experience and roles include vice president of marketing at Qualcomm, and co-founding the AI and data tech company Cercle. Radicle Science also appointed Dr. Rob Sinnott as senior strategic advisor, whose past experiences include serving as chief scientific officer and CEO for Mannatech Inc. and chief scientific officer for USANA Health Sciences, Inc.

Pharmachem Innovations appointed Árpád Széchényi as president and CEO. Most recently, Széchényi served as president of Landsman Pharma, a professional services company. Before joining Landsman Pharma, he held executive positions at Epic Pharma, PuraCap International, VistaPharm LLC and Sandoz and also worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company.

Stratum Nutrition welcomed Marie Parks as ingredient science specialist to work closely with the commercial team to ensure scientific credibility and customer value through in-depth analysis of both Stratum’s proprietary ingredients and the broader competitive landscape. In her previous roles, Parks has contributed to the development of science-backed supplements with companies including Life Extension and GNC.

Todd Runestad joined ingredient supplier NXT USA as chief storytelling officer after nearly three decades with New Hope Network and SupplySide working as a journalist, panel moderator and interviewer across both print and digital media platforms.

Biohm announced the appointment of Dr. John Deaton to lead the expansion of microbiome technology solutions, including ingredients, gut health testing and data-driven supplement formulations. Dr. Deaton brings more than 17 years of expertise in microbial and enzyme research, with a career spanning probiotics, prebiotics and biotechnological applications. Previously, he served as vice president of R&D for North America at ADM/Deerland Probiotics & Enzymes, leading innovations in human wellness, agriculture, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and animal nutrition.

Trace appointed Mandy McCarthy as chief marketing officer to amplify the brand’s market presence and deepen consumer education around the importance of minerals. McCarthy’s career spans companies including Newell Brands, Unilever, Office Depot, Garden of Life and most recently Nestlé’s, where she served as general manager of the company’s specialty supplements division.

The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) appointed M. Scott Furness, Ph.D., to serve as its new senior vice president of regulatory & scientific affairs. Dr. Furness comes to CHPA from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) where he spent more than 25 years in various leadership roles, most recently as director of the division of product quality assessment XVIII at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research’s (CDER) Office of Pharmaceutical Quality (OPQ), overseeing the scientific review and quality evaluation of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) section of regulatory applications and providing strategic guidance on pharmaceutical quality issues.

The Natural Products Association (NPA) appointed NOW Health Group CEO Jim Emme as the new chairman of the NPA Board of Directors, which includes Adam Adelmann (OmniActive Health Technologies), Michael DiMaggio (Nutrabolt), Keith Gregory (Highland Laboratories), Gregory Guinto (GNC Holdings), Meeta Kratz (Lonza), Mark LeDoux (Natural Alternatives International), Christine Long (Arbonne International), Dan Lourenco (Ghost), Emil Mahler (Southtown Health Foods), Ryan Niddel (MIT45), Madhav Pai (Aspire Pharmaceuticals), Mark Rohde (IFF), Steve Rosenman (Nutrition 21), JW Ross (Botanic Tonics), Sibyl Swift (Johnson Foods), Julio Torres (Global Healing), Archie Veeravalli (Gencor), Adel Villalobos (Lief Organics), Daniel Wallace (Force Factor), Joe Weiss (PLT Health Solutions) and Lee Wright (formerly of The Vitamin Shoppe).

The United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) announced the newly elected members of its Council of Experts, elected at the 2025 USP Convention Meeting. The Council of Experts leads USP’s standard setting committees that create and revise the standards that appear in the U.S. Pharmacopeia–National Formulary (USP–NF), the legally recognized official compendium of standards for drugs and drug ingredients in the United States; the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC), an internationally accepted compendium for food ingredients; and the USP Herbal Medicines Compendium (HMC). Specific to the dietary supplement space, the committee chairs elected for the 2025-2030 Council of Experts are: Thomas Brendler, PhD, (Botanical Dietary Supplements & Herbal Medicines), Raimar Löebenberg, PhD, (Non-Botanical Dietary Supplements) and Amy Lynne Roe, PhD, DABT, FATS (Dietary Supplements Admission, Evaluation, & Labeling).

Andrew Bremer, director of the NIH Office of Nutrition Research, stepped in to serve as acting director of the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements following Stefan Pasiakos’s announcement that he would be stepping down as director on April 18, a role he had held since July 16, 2023. During his tenure he formalized the ODS Strategic Plan 2025-2029, which he said at the time was developed with “an intense focus on progress and accountability and a deep belief that meaningful scientific advances are best achieved through shared principles and collaboration.” Dr. Pasiakos will now serve as professor and director of the Center for Human Performance Optimization at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA.
