Based in Madrid, the company specialises in formulation of functional gummies as well as development of ingredients for dietary supplements, clinical trials, and medical nutrition.
The firm recently exhibited at Hi & Fi Asia-China 2025 held in Shanghai from 24 to 26 June, marking its first trade show participation in the country.
“We attend a lot of exhibitions across the globe, such as in Europe, Middle East and the US, and a lot of Chinese people have asked why are we not in China? Because they consider our products to be very interesting, and even some gummy producers are asking us to develop functional gummies for them. That’s why we decided to come here this year.
“It’s our first time and we are excited— although we don’t know too much about this market — so we are open to all kinds of opportunities. We are looking for local partners, including distributors and brands that are interested in our products,” Pedro de la Fuente, Managing Director of Nutris, told NutraIngredients-Asia.
According to Pedro, Nutris has about 15 patents for functional gummies worldwide, and is currently selling to Europe, the US, Middle East, South Korea, and Vietnam.
“We are a market leader for gummies in Europe, and we have 30 people in our R&D team. All our ingredients and patented technologies are developed in-house at our facility in Spain. We are already in the process of applying for Chinese patent as well.”
The firm’s portfolio is said to comprise approximately 2,000 gummy formulas, with innovation to produce with the best quality being an ongoing practice.
“The gummy format is growing very fast globally, so innovation is the best option [to stay relevant]. For instance, we just launched slow-release gummies, whereby we can play with the delivery system of ingredients in the body. This technology allows us to make very special products.
“An example is a slow-release gummy that contains caffeine. The user may take one gummy today, but the caffeine only starts to be released the next day morning.”
Areas of growth
Another vital business arm of Nutris is the development of specific ingredients for clinical trials, with CURSOL being cited by Pedro as a key product.
CURSOL is said to be a patented, high-purity curcumin extract with high bioavailability. Its strong anti-inflammatory properties offer therapeutic potential in pain relief, particularly for arthritis and osteoarthritis.
Designed to fight inflammation and muscular or joint pain, ProCurMAX is a “bio-optimised formulation” that combines CURSOL, maslinic acid, and tyndallized probiotic strain Lactobacillus paracasei. It has been clinically demonstrated to show significant improvements in pain relief and quality of life.
Asked on current trends in the nutraceutical field, Pedro shared that the company is observing rapid growth in two main areas — women’s health, specifically beauty and skin; and magnesium.
“We are seeing a lot of growth in specific products like magnesium, so we have just developed three formulas based on this essential mineral. Some of its best benefits include sleep, recovery, and cognitive support,” he added.
Magnesium is known to regulate numerous bodily functions that contribute to overall health and well-being. Notably, adequate intake has been linked to blood sugar control, blood pressure regulation, improved heart health and bone health, and enhanced muscle and nerve functions, which results in better exercise performance.
The nutrient also plays a potential role in mental health, such as improving sleep, energy, mood, reducing anxiety, and alleviating premenstrual syndrome and postmenopausal symptoms.
