Mengniu gets ‘blue-hat’ for new YoyiC probiotic drink

China dairy giant Mengniu Dairy has obtained “blue-hat” status for a new probiotic drink slated for launch next year.

With this status, the new product—known as YoyiC Galacto-oligosaccharides Probiotic Drink (优益C低聚半乳糖益生菌饮品)—is allowed to make health claims.

In this case, two health claims have been approved, namely “aids in modulating the gut microbiome” and “aids in digestion”.

TA Vital, a Vietnam-based company specializing in spirulina and algae products, has formulated a supplement containing brown algae extract for weight management, with plans to develop sleep, stress, and immune health products further down the road.

An upcoming launch is TA Vital Carb & Fat Block - a weight management product that uses brown algae extract.

The product is said to support weight control by inhibiting the body’s digestion and absorption of carbohydrates and fats.

Working with pharmacist influencers can open doors for small nutraceutical brands that own quality products but lack marketing budget for celebrity endorsements, says the winner of the marketing initiative of the year in this year’s NutraIngredients-Asia Awards.

Korean nutraceutical company TopHealth, together with white-label nutraceutical manufacturer PharmaLinea and Pharmabros—a collective of pharmacist influencers, took home the award this year.

Having pharmacist influencers who openly discuss the pros and cons of their products is a key reason driving consumer trust and eventually sales, said TopHealth CEO Tae Yoon Kim.

Norwegian supplements brand Noromega sheds light on the key strategies that drove its successes in China, which it seeks to replicate in Thailand.

This is especially because Thai consumers are similar to Chinese consumers in terms of e-commerce uptake.

“Thai consumers use Lazada and Shopee like how Chinese consumers use Tmall and JD.com. They are also active users of TikTok and Instagram, just like Douyin and RED in China. So, I think we can replicate some of our successes in Thailand,” said Derek Liu, CEO of Noromega.
