The collaboration, highlighted during Natural Products Expo West 2026, will focus on translating Magtein’s research into consumer-facing content distributed through the Pump Club newsletter and podcast.
As detailed in TheroTech, LLC’s press announcement, Magtein is a patented form of magnesium L-threonate designed to increase brain magnesium levels, and the ingredient has been studied in multiple human clinical trials examining outcomes such as cognitive performance, sleep quality and mood, including a recent randomized trial published in Frontiers in Nutrition.
Speaking with NutraIngredients at Expo West, Angela Kelly, senior social media manager for Magtein, said many consumers still associate magnesium primarily with muscle relaxation or sleep support.
“I think a lot of people when they think about magnesium, they kind of just think about it for muscle relaxation or sleep,” Kelly said. “But they don’t know about magnesium L-threonate and Magtein necessarily, where it supports cognitive vitality and crossing the blood-brain barrier.”
Kelly said the Pump Club partnership creates an opportunity to introduce the ingredient to an audience already interested in longevity and health span.
“Arnold’s Pump Club has a huge audience, whether it’s young people, millennials or people who are older, but they’re all definitely looking after their health and very interested in healthy aging,” Kelly said. “Sharing it with their audience is a really great opportunity.”
Translating magnesium science for a broader audience
Arnold’s Pump Club, founded by Schwarzenegger and health journalist Adam Bornstein, publishes a daily newsletter and podcast focused on practical, science-based health guidance.
In the press release announcing the partnership, Bornstein said the collaboration fits with the platform’s goal of helping readers interpret research and apply it to everyday health decisions.
“Longevity is a core focus for our community, and that includes protecting what matters most as we age, our brains,” Bornstein said. “Magnesium is one of the nutrients we get asked about constantly, but the form and the science matter.”
Bornstein added that magnesium L-threonate differentiates itself through its research base and the types of outcomes consumers are increasingly seeking.
“Magtein stands out because it’s a patented form of magnesium L-threonate backed by human research, with benefits people care about like brain health, healthy cognitive aging, sleep quality, next-day functioning, stress support and mood,” he said, and “partnering with Magtein lets us do what we do best, make the science make sense.”
New research explores cardiovascular and performance measures
Magtein’s clinical research portfolio continues to expand, with newer studies examining physiological and performance-related outcomes in addition to cognitive measures.
Kelly pointed to findings from a recently published trial that examined heart rate variability.
“The findings from the Frontiers in Nutrition study around heart rate variability are very exciting,” she said. “That’s tied to cardiovascular health and recovery.”
The study also looked at measures such as reaction time and hand-eye coordination.
“It’s exciting to see how it supported reaction time and hand-eye coordination,” Kelly said, which “could be interesting for people who are really interested in sports or exercise, or even gamers,” and could broaden the ingredient’s relevance beyond traditional cognitive aging applications.
Brain health trends gain momentum at Expo West
Cognitive health and healthy aging were recurring themes across the show floor at this year’s Natural Products Expo West, reflecting continued momentum in brain-focused wellness products.
Kelly noted that magnesium L-threonate’s research history positions the ingredient within that broader shift.
“Magnesium L-threonate has really been front and center in this space for a long time,” she said, and “we’re extremely well positioned and we’re continuing to conduct research.”
Jennifer Gu, CEO at Magtein, shared in the company’s press release that the collaboration reflects a shared focus on science-backed wellness education.
“Wellness should be built on science you can trust,” Gu said. “Arnold and the Pump Club team have built a community grounded in discipline, scientific curiosity and practical guidance, and Magtein was developed with that same standard in mind.”
Gu added that the partnership will focus on helping consumers better understand the ingredient’s research and potential benefits.
“Together, we’re looking forward to helping people understand the wide portfolio of Magtein science in a clear, approachable way,” she said.
