NVP Healthcare eyes foothold in Latin America through partnership with Brazilian firm

Under the agreement signed on June 23, NVP Healthcare will serve as the sole supplier of its NVP-1702 probiotic and offer technical and regulatory support, while pharmaceutical major Marjan Farma will develop and commercialize finished products containing the ingredient in Brazil. Through the partnership, NVP Healthcare believes it has established a strong foundation for expansion into Brazil and the broader Latin American market. “This agreement holds deep significance and marks an important milestone in the global commercialization strategy for NVP-1702,” the firm said. “Using Brazil as a regional hub, we will actively explore business expansion across Latin America.” It added that the deal was made possible through the support for global expansion and overseas partnering provided by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI). At the same time, NVP Healthcare plans to maintain a long-term cooperative relationship with Marjan Farma through the stable supply of raw materials and rigorous quality control. NVP-1702 is a multi-strain probiotic ingredient developed using NBP Healthcare’s proprietary biotechnology platform, DuoBiome, which is used to screen, select, combine Live Biotherapeutic Products (LBPs). The platform focuses on pairing highly compatible probiotic strains to target specific, complex diseases, such as the gut-liver axis and cognitive health. Specifically, NVP-1702 is composed of two strains— Lactobacillus plantarum LC27 and Bifidobacterium longum LC67 . It stands as the world’s first probiotic to be approved by South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) as an individually recognized ingredient with dual functionality in improving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic liver damage. In two 12-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials conducted on adults with non-alcoholic and alcoholic liver injury, liver function markers, such as alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (γ-GTP) levels, were shown to be significantly improved by NVP-1702. Currently, NVP Healthcare has secured patents for NVP-1702 in 34 countries, including the US, Japan, and Brazil. The company is also in the midst of submitting an investigational new drug (IND) application for a Phase 2 clinical trial to the US FDA. According to the company, the partnership with Marjan Farma can be considered as an official recognition of NVP-1702’s global technological capabilities and commercial value on the international stage.
