The award validates what Resbiotic CEO and founder Dr. Vivek Lal, MD, has explained: that rigorous science, product-level clinical evidence and relentless execution can build category-defining health companies.
The achievement is a tremendous milestone for the company, he added.

Addressing the gut connections
Alabama-based Resbiotic’s journey began 10 years ago when Dr. Lal observed the role the microbiome played in various health conditions and diseases.
“We started sequencing both normal patients and patients with various illnesses to study their systems biology including transcriptomics, genomics, proteomics metabolomics, and microbiomics,” Lal explained in 2023. “We realized that the microbiome was playing a major role in host homeostasis.”
In the last five years, customers have put their faith in products developed by Resbiotic and Lal’s early insights into the microbiome. By 2021, the company had launched its probiotic that boosts lung health via that gut-lung axis. In the journal Frontiers in Nutrition, supplementation with the probiotic resB for four weeks increased the volume asthmatic patients could exhale in a one-second forced breath.
As the gut connects to a host of organs in the body, Resbiotic began rolling out products that addressed junctions beyond the lungs, including gut-heart, gut-brain, gut-female, gut-aging, gut-skin, gut-pet and other categories.
By 2024, the company added prebeet Energy+, which contains an infusion of whole beets to enhance circulation and support heart health. The product has a high dose of vitamin B12 for brain cell function and to facilitate cellular energy.
Resbiotic now has 10 products, including a gut test created in partnership with Tiny Health, the first microbiome platform to address infant gut imbalances. Tiny Health was named the 2025 NutraIngredients Start-up of the Year.
As for the start-up award, Dr. Lal acknowledged the role science continues to play in his company’s success.
