Bengaluru-based Greenspace Herbs has so far applied the technology to botanicals such as curcumin, ashwagandha and berberine.
Speaking to NutraIngredients, Hirehal Nuruddin Shafiulla, managing director at Greenspace Herbs, said the technology was designed to address key challenges when formulating botanicals in nutraceuticals.
These challenges include low bioavailability and absorption of botanical bioactives in the body, the use of excessive doses to compensate for low bioavailability and ineffective delivery of bioactives.
“We have come up with a new technology which we call Quantum Ayurveda. It works on the principles of quantum wisdom and quantum knowledge using modern technologies, tools, instruments and machines,” he said.
How it works
There are three key steps to the method that Greenspace Herbs has developed.
First, AI is used to identify how bioactives from different botanicals could deliver specific health benefits.
Second, molecular docking analysis is performed to find out the extent to which bioactives are reaching targeted organs.
Third, a Raman spectrophotometer is used to check the energy levels of ingredients before they are sent for energy infusion in an energizing chamber.
“Because our technology works on electromagnetic field energies, which we infuse into botanical extracts, those energies stay at the molecular level and will dissipate inside the body once consumed,” Shafiulla said.
He claimed that the energy will help bioactives travel and reach targeted organs faster. It will also help sustain the plasma concentration of bioactives.
The process of energy infusion does not alter the chemical structure of the ingredient either, he added.
“Suppose I am talking about curcumin 95%; the structure of curcuminoids would not change at all - because only the energy has been infused into that. What this energy does is it reaches the targeted organ or targeted cell at a much faster pace and with a lesser dose used,” he said.
Clinical data
In a study published in the World Journal of Pharmacy and Medical Science this February, it was reported that energy-infused curcumin showed significantly higher bioavailability – more than 20-fold increase in bioavailability compared to standard curcuma extract.
During the study, 65 individuals were randomized to take a single oral dose of 500mg of energy-infused curcumin commercially available as CurcuminQA or 500mg of standard curcumin extract capsules.
Blood samples were collected pre- and post-experiment to analyze the effects of curcumin supplementation.
Pharmacokinetic results showed that total curcuminoid levels peaked in blood samples at approximately 454 ng/ml, which was 22 times higher than that of standard curcumin, where total curcuminoid levels peaked at approximately 20 ng/ml.
The total amount of total curcuminoids absorbed in the blood was approximately 1,233 ng·h/ml for individuals taking CurcuminQA and only approximately 57 ng·h/ml in individuals taking standard curcumin.
Another study, published in the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrated Medical Sciences this April, reported similar results, where energy-infused berberine had enhanced solubility and showed approximately 3.8-fold increase in bioaccessibility compared to standard berberine.
During the study, the effects of energy-infused BerberineQA and standard berberine HCL (97%) were compared in 30 individuals in a RCT.
Findings showed that BerberineQA achieved a higher peak concentration at 1.2ng/mL which was 18 times higher than that of standard berberine at 0.07ng/mL.
Total exposure of BerberineQA in plasma concentration was also four-fold higher than standard berberine, based on pharmacokinetic analysis.
