Maypro signs exclusive US distribution deal for Aspurūs, a full-spectrum Shatavari root extract, a compound used and studied for its benefits in women’s health.

The distribution agreement partners Maypro Industries, an ingredient supplier, and Waleria Healthtech, an ingredient developer focused on women’s health solutions, and centers on Aspurūs, which the companies describe as containing seven naturally occurring Shatavarins.

Maypro gains exclusive distribution rights for Aspurūs in the US, which the company stated would expand its portfolio within women’s health, with a product that offers potential for women “across reproductive years, perimenopause and menopause.”

Behind the Aspurūs product is a clinical program that has studied the benefits for women in perimenopause, menopause and in sexual health, Lauren Clardy, senior director, scientific affairs, told NutraIngredients.

Regarding dosing, Clardy outlined that Aspurūs has personalized dosing based on a woman’s changing biology: “Based on the research, the standardized full-spectrum extract dosage depends on the application: 300 mg for reproductive age, libido, and sexual wellness; 500 mg for perimenopause; and 250 mg for menopause,” she said.

Clinical evidence

The companies refer to a recent study, published in the Journal of Dietary Supplements, that evaluated Aspurūs in perimenopause. The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial enrolled 150 women aged 35 to 55, who received 500mg daily for 12 weeks. It assessed vasomotor symptoms, cognition, anxiety, physical discomfort, sexual symptoms, stress and fatigue, alongside endocrine and stress-related biomarkers. From baseline, fatigue fell by 74.6%, hot flash frequency by 66.2%, perceived stress by 51.8% and brain fog by 44.9%.

Clardy said that research into the product had been driven by the companies’ women-led leadership: “With Aspurūs, this translates into R&D priorities that recognize the distinct physiological needs of women across reproductive, perimenopausal, and menopausal life stages, supported by targeted clinical research rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.”

An earlier randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study looked at peri- and post-menopausal women, evaluating hot flashes, sleep, mood, vaginal dryness and quality of life. Aspurūs showed an 88% improvement in hot flash experience versus 42% for placebo, and a 35% improvement in Utian Quality of Life score, compared with a 4% decline in the placebo group.

A third trial extended the research into sexual wellness and libido in women aged 18 to 45 with low sexual desire. Aspurūs increased objectively measured vaginal moisture by 63% from baseline, while the placebo group saw a 6% decrease.

Women-led innovation

Waleria Healthtech is focused on developing ingredients for women’s health, and its CEO, Komal Baldwa, told NutraIngredients that this shapes how it approaches challenges, sets priorities for research and develops solutions.

“At Waleria, we are building an ingredient platform around a fundamental belief: women are not simply smaller versions of men,” she said. “Women’s hormonal environments and health priorities evolve across different life stages, and their health needs cannot be addressed through a one-size-fits-all approach.”

This also extends into the company’s supply chain. Baldwa confirmed that the company’s supply of Aspurūs is ready for immediate demand and long-term growth, having established partnerships with women-owned farming operations that cover more than 200 acres of Shatavari cultivation.

“Women-led companies inherently conduct better science as it affects us!” Clardy said. “Together, we are demonstrating that scientific rigor, commercial innovation, and women’s economic empowerment can be mutually reinforcing priorities, not simply separate corporate initiatives.”
