India-based health and wellness brand, Suraksha Naturals, was set to debut their Ketoveyda product line at the Efficient Collaborative Retail Marketing (ECRM) Conference, in Orlando, Florida, which is taking place this week. The theme for the program is Vitamin and Micronutrients, Weight Management, Sports Nutrition and Hemp Solutions.
Suraksha Naturals is offering a line of products called Ketoveyda, with meal options and supplements they say will help to recover nutrients lost while on the keto diet.
The ketogenic diet, or keto diet, is a low-carb, high-fat diet (75% fats, 20% proteins, 5% carbohydrates). By minimizing carbohydrates and increasing fat intake, the body enters a metabolic state called ketosis, causing the body’s fat-burning to go into overdrive.
It’s all about balance
Ayurveda is a holistic approach to diet, practice, and medical treatments that address the entire body, rather than a specific ailment. The Ayurveda medicine system is Indian in origin, with about 75% of the Indian population putting it to use in various forms. Some basic practices of an Ayurvedic diet include eating according to your energy type, or your dosha. Different types of doshas include, Veta, Pitta, and Kapha. The diet also aims to promote inner balance through upkeep of the energy flow inside the body. By incorporating a variety of nutrients and flavors in the diet, Ayurvedic diet proponents say the body is kept in a balanced state.
Suraksha Naturals product line works in conjunction with a modern keto diet, by providing ingredients that work with the body type and fall within the keto diet parameters.
Ayurveda has been in practice in India for about five thousand years. The keto diet has become more mainstream as of late, but it’s actually been around for about 100 years. Suraksha's Ketoveyda product-line was created to work synergistically with a keto diet, by filling in nutritional gaps. For instance, Ketoveyda has supplements designed for kidney support, because they claim the keto diet may lead to kidney stones and other health issues from the high fat diet.
The market is booming
Interest in all things Ayurvedic has been increasing in the US in recent years. One sign of this is the booming sales of turmeric products. It has been the top selling herb for a number of years now, and was only displaced in the most recent market report by the craze for all things CBD. The surge of CBD to the top in the natural channel displaced turmeric, which previously held the number one spot since 2013. Turmeric supplements still ranked number two in the natural channel, but growth plateaued year-on-year (0.4%), with sales of $51.2 million. Sales in the mass channel grew 30.5% year-on-year with sales of $93.3 million, suggesting greater mainstream awareness and acceptance of that herb. Global Ayurvedic Market was value at $4.5 billion in 2017 and is expected to reach 14.9 billion by 2026 at a CAGR of 16.14%, according to a report featured on medgadget.
“Ayurvedic products did not gain much recognition in the western world until recently because these products have been made in the traditional without any scientific standardization, safety studies and clinical evidence,” she added. “However, there are some companies now that are researching Ayurvedic ingredients and introducing them to the dietary supplement industry with multiple clinical trials validating safety and efficacy,” Aparna Kalidindi, a sales and marketing manager at ingredients company Natreon told NutraIngredients-USA.
“Consumer understanding in North America for Ayurvedic products is growing especially since there is a trend towards natural and alternative therapies with less adverse effects and drug interactions.”
