Growing up in the dietary supplement capital of the United States, Kandice Randal started her marketing career at a local MLM as a teenager straight out of high school. Looking back, Randal never imagined she would later found a public relation firm representing many of the dietary supplement companies she grew up surrounded by in Utah.
“[It’s] just very funny and it kind of comes full circle now to what I’m doing today,” said Randal. “So it’s just so funny thinking back as one of my first jobs was in the same industry that I’m in today.”
Growing up surrounded by MLMs and a nutrition-focused mother by her side, Randal naturally gravitated toward marketing for such brands. In 2019, she took the leap to launch Kandice Rae Communications and went full-time in 2022.
“State of mind also played a lot into this,” she said. “I approached it as gentle as I could with myself, saying if I succeed that’s great, if I fail that’s okay too because I tried. So just having that gentleness but the dedication and determination of this is what I wanted to do and…I’m so grateful of all the partners I get to work with… it’s been such an amazing experience.”
Her advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is to first believe in yourself, then test those ideas out on the side before scaling up. Randal credits the marketing group she joined with providing crucial business advice and general guidance. She also emphasized hiring a bookkeeper to handle the administrative burden, which she noted frees her up to focus on what she’s most passionate about.
So far Randal has been focused on the nutraceutical space, but said she is hoping to eventually expand into the beauty and pet health industries.
“I do a little bit of that now, but would love to dive further into those industries,” she said.
