Speaking to NutraIngredients at Expo West, Lauretta Katsriku, Rousselot’s global category director, said the patents, now secured in the US, Europe, Japan, and Australia, mark a strategic step in the company’s move beyond structural collagen applications into targeted metabolic health solutions.
Targeted peptides, differentiated mechanism
Unlike standard collagen peptides, NexTYD GC consists of targeted peptide compositions designed to interact with physiological pathways involved in post-meal glucose handling.
“We’ve conducted two clinical studies right now,” Katsriku said. “They have shown that intake of up to about 10 grams of NexTYD GC approximately half an hour before a carb-heavy meal was associated with three different things.”
She outlined the results as:
- Up to about a 37% reduction in blood glucose spikes
- Increased GLP-1 secretion after intake
- Significant delay in gastric emptying in a prediabetic subgroup
“Importantly, these effects were observed without a significant increase in insulin secretion. And that’s a very big differentiator,” she added.
Katsriku also noted that a second study has confirmed the findings from the first trial, strengthening the company’s scientific positioning around postprandial glucose response, GLP-1 secretion and delayed gastric emptying.
Metabolic health ‘having a moment’
With consumer awareness rising, Katsriku described metabolic health as a category gaining strong momentum.
“Metabolic health is really having a moment,” she said. “Consumers are getting more aware of the importance of metabolic health in general, and because of that, formulators are looking at different pathways to incorporate ingredients that would really support this for consumers.”
She added that brands are prioritising ingredients that are easy to incorporate into multiple delivery formats.
NexTYD GC can be used in a wide variety of applications, including liquid shots, beverage applications, powdered mixes and baked goods. The ingredient is intended for consumption before a carbohydrate-heavy meal, enabling flexibility in timing and format.
Regional format differences shape opportunity
Katsriku highlighted clear cultural differences in preferred formats across markets.
In North America, powdered formats remain dominant, including large tubs, single-serve scoops and stick packs, echoing current trends seen in protein powders.
In Europe, she pointed to rapid growth in ready-to-drink liquid shots, driven by convenience.
In parts of Asia, formats vary more widely and include gel-like shots in small tubes, which may not align with North American preferences but are popular regionally.
Because NexTYD GC is versatile, and patents are secured in multiple regions, brands can tailor delivery formats to local consumer habits while maintaining a consistent scientific platform.
“Imagine a brand that is looking to launch a product in multiple countries,” Katsriku said. “This patent actually supports that in that they are able to launch a product that is scientifically tested, and obviously we have the patents to back it, and they can use this to impact in different geographical environments.”
NexTYD GC is the first commercialized ingredient within Rousselot’s broader NexTYD platform, with additional products coming soon, Katsriku teased, adding that additional launches under the platform are planned to further support metabolic health, along with other functional health areas.
