The goal is to deliver a personalized supplement to patients as quickly as possible, said Joe Zhou, co-founder and CEO of TSI Group.
“The journey we’re taking now with Tailored Script is really about the combination of an intelligence layer and personal data while using the functional medicine root-cause philosophy and methodology to look at how nutrition can support an individual’s health goals, trying to address some of the potential risks to health,” Zhou added.
Launched in 2021 as a personalized nutrition system in China, Tailored Script’s platform evolved and by 2025 had become a next-generation personalized nutrition platform.
Tailored Script collects baseline health data analysis conducted by a clinician, though some applications are direct-to-consumer. This can include health questionnaires and biomarkers. Then its patented AI system integrates the needs of customers to personalize nutritional profiles for individuals.
The clinician then sends an anonymized prescription to the TSI Group. The company has created robotic dispensing technology to deliver precision granules, about 3 millimeters in diameter, with specific dosages of supplements for both individuals and populations. The TSI Group uses granules, because powders are difficult to automate and because they sometimes interact with each other.
“When you mix the powders together, you’re not guaranteed, based on like the heaviness of each of the powders, that you’re getting the right dose of everything, which is another reason for the granules,” said Teresa DeJohn, director, global marketing communications and sales enablement, at TSI USA.
The automated machines can go through 80 stations and drop the exact number of actives when a collection pod gets to a specific station.

After an individual is on a specific supplement regimen, Tailored Script can monitor formulations and adjust them as consumer data is collected. AI will be able to take large data sets derived from consumer information, finding associations and connecting outcomes, Zhou noted.
“I think this is a way AI can improve understanding about nutrients, understanding the combination of nutrients and understanding the relationship with those nutrients for health conditions,” he said.
Traditional influences
The idea for Tailored Script was inspired a decade ago. Zhou was working with functional medicine doctors in China and said he wanted to understand a key pain point in their clinics: why these doctors could not get an exact supplement match for their patients.
“They would take hours to really find the commercially available products,” Zhou explained. “I thought I can find a way to exactly match a supplement and to make it personalized for the patient.”
He was motivated by the process of getting a prescription for a botanical, where a traditional doctor would open a draw, weigh it and send the patient home with the botanical.
“Obviously in the 21st century, I can make a much more precise dose and supplement and based on the ingredient level,” Zhou said.
Wanting to learn more, TSI Group is also conducting scientific research, including a 10-year study with a health association in China. The study is tracking 100 people taking precision-dosed supplements, with data collected from participants every six months.
“The outcome is quite good, quite good,” Zhou said. “We have not really released it yet, but I can tell you it’s very encouraging.”
