Puredia looks to heighten awareness of sea buckthorn for oral beauty amid award win
Hong Kong-headquartered Puredia hopes to raise greater awareness of omega-7-rich sea buckthorn ingredients for use in beauty-from-within supplements on the back of a NutraIngredients-Asia Awards win.
The company’s branded ingredient named Omegia, won Ingredient of the Year: Beauty From Within at the Awards held in Bangkok, Thailand, on September 2.
Michael Yuen, business development manager at Puredia, told NutraIngredients that the award will encourage the company to keep innovating and improving its ingredient solutions, conduct new clinical research, and to develop novel extraction technologies.
Study backs HMB’s role in age-related muscle preservation
A new study, funded by Abbott Nutrition, USA, showed that beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB) showed beneficial effects in age-related muscle preservation and revealed sex-based differences.
Prof Shawn Baier, an HMB research scientist & senior director of global ingredient science at TSI Group, which manufactures myHMB, told NutraIngredients that the study provides a deeper understanding of the benefits of HMB.
“What stood out was that myHMB further increased muscle protein synthesis feeding response to protein and helped maintain suppression of muscle protein breakdown for a longer period of time than whey protein alone,” he said.
Akkermansia may improve PMOS-related measures for obese women: RCT
Researchers affiliated with Nanchang University reported that pasteurized (postbiotic) Akkermansia muciniphila may offer reduce testosterone levels, improve the profile of the gut microbiota, and improve insulin resistance and dyslipidemia in polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), when used in combination with standardized oral contraceptive therapy.
“Through mitigating the limitations of conventional therapies targeting metabolism and hormonal balance, this strategy offers a reliable and effective approach to treating obese patients with PMOS in clinical settings,” wrote the researchers in Clinical Nutrition.
Caffeine dominates esports supplements - review
More than 75% of nutritional supplements evaluated for electronic sports (esports) performance contain caffeine, according to a systematic review of randomised controlled trials.
The systematic review involved 13 RCTs published between 2019 and 2025, conducted across the US, Spain, Australia, Japan, Taiwan and India.
Findings revealed that caffeine was the most popular ingredient in esports supplements, with links to improvements in cognitive function, gaming performance and psychological mood.
